Our Beginnings
Founded by the Godbey family in 2010, our story started with a simple goal — to bring the finest flavors from around the world to our friends and neighbors in Fort Collins, Colorado, and beyond. Our love for the local community and our passion for high-quality, tailored products inspired us to create a unique spice shop that has something for everyone. By working directly with importers and growers, we ensure that every spice and seasoning meets our high standards for quality and freshness.

Community-Driven Collaborations
Nestled in the heart of Fort Collins, Old Town Spice Shop is more than just a purveyor of fine spices and seasonings — it's a cherished partner to local businesses seeking unique ingredients for their culinary, fermented, and distilled creations. At the helm is Sean Godbey, a second-generation spice dealer whose expertise and passion transform ordinary dishes into extraordinary experiences.
Among the shop's notable collaborations is with the legendary New Belgium Brewery Company in Fort Collins. Inspired by Sean's knack for sourcing obscure and intriguing spices, the brewery asked him to craft a beer as unique as his offerings. The result? A limited-edition beer endearingly named The Great Godbey — a Sloe Gin-inspired ESB Oak-Aged Sour, infused with a blend of juniper berries, sloe berries, Indian coriander, orris root, lemon peel, Timut peppercorns, green cardamom, all harmonized with French Oak Spirals.
“Here in the wood cellar, we love obscure, unsung, and intriguing spices. Whenever someone asks: Where do you find them? Our answer is usually: 'We have a guy.' That ‘guy,’ Sean Godbey, is a second-generation spice dealer of Old Town Spice Shop in Fort Collins. And after so many assists on the wildest of ingredients, we asked him to dream up a beer we could make as an attempt to thank him. We think he's great--in fact, The Great Godbey. Old Town Spice Shop Giving Back
Giving back to our community is at the heart of what we do. We're proud to partner with local businesses, restaurants, breweries, distilleries, and coffee houses to support independent businesses in Fort Collins and around Colorado.
Beyond that, we actively contribute to local and national nonprofits, helping raise funds and awareness for important causes. For example, 20% of all sales of our Sweetgrass Prairie Blend goes directly to Prairie Wildlife Research to support their efforts to reintroduce the Black-Footed Ferret. Similarly, we donate proceeds from our National Parks Seasoning series to wildlife conservation efforts. We also give thousands of dollars annually to support fundraising efforts by local charities for many different causes.
We greatly appreciate the support we receive and it’s an honor for us to pay it forward and support our communities in the process.

He also serves multiple roles in Visit Fort Collins and the CTE Business Advisory Committee for the Poudre School District. Additionally, Sean is a regular guest teacher at local high schools to educate students about spices and the culinary industry. He also guest-teaches at the Colorado State University College of Business, sharing his knowledge about entrepreneurship with students.
